As I prepare to head to Denver, Colorado to speak at eWomen Network (Premier Success System for Women Entrepreneurs), I’m reevaluating what “Building Your Empire” means for you as a woman entrepreneur, small business owner, or CEO. And, as importantly why you should care.
There’s a heightened wave in rallying women to the call of becoming millionaires. While I have no beef whatsoever with the principle of this, I do have minor discord with the way it’s being played out. Quite frankly, it’s why I founded the Woman Up Global Movement.
In her article, “Gender Marketing: He Brain vs. She Brain,” my friend and colleague Tamara McCleary reminds us of why women are being summoned to become millionaires in the first place.
In more than 42% of U.S. households with children under 18.5, women are the sole breadwinners. This number has significantly increased since 1967 when less than 10% of women were sole breadwinners and under 25% were co-breadwinners.1
What does this mean for you? Bridget Brennon points out in her Forbes article, “Why Has Women’s Economic Power Surged?”, that because women have two jobs: one inside the home and one outside the home, we also have less time to engage in the market place.
BUILDING YOUR EMPIRE allows you to create a business that affords you both the breadwinner status you need AND the freedom of time you want. It no longer needs to be an either/or conversation.
The second reason why you’re being called to be a millionaire is…
As of 2012, there are over 9.8 million women owned businesses (WOB’s) in the United States. An increase of 26.8% from 2007.2
What does this mean for you? Women’s entrepreneurship is alive and well! Flourishing, if I do say so myself.
BUILDING YOUR EMPIRE gives you the power to turn your own dreams into reality. You no longer need to play by the rules or live 'status quo'. You can...
"Stop trying to love what you’re doing and do what you love."
The third reason you’re being called to millionaire status is…
It’s no secret that women are fundamentally different than men. In the case of entrepreneurship, that couldn’t be any truer. Many studies show that men often start businesses for growth opportunity and profitability while women start businesses for more personal reasons. Although profitability is important, most women are looking to gain a feeling of achievement or accomplishment.3
What does this mean for you? Your self-worth is tied to how you feel about yourself and money is simply one representation of the level of success you obtain.
BUILDING YOUR EMPIRE rewards you with stronger self-worth and self-pride. It provides you both the sense of accomplish AND financial representation of success you’re looking for.
Whether you ever reach millionaire status or not, let it be beside the point. If you are being who YOU want to be, living the life YOU want to live, and building the business YOU envision, you’re BUILDING YOUR EMPIRE.
